Sofas

Sofas with natural cushioning and clearly described upholstery, without polyurethane foam or added chemical flame retardants.

A sofa can contain several layers beneath the visible fabric.  We favor latex, wool and cotton cushioning, and consider the frame, batting, adhesives and finishes together.  Natural upholstery alone is not enough; the materials inside the cushions need to support the same choice.

Pure Upholstery Tom Sofa — 90 in., Orcas Clay Pure Upholstery Tom Sofa — 90 in., Orcas Clay ORGANIC COTTONNATURAL LATEXSOLID WOOD Why we recommend it: A relatively shallow 31-inch frame and 22-inch seat depth make the Tom worth considering where a deep lounge sofa would overwhelm the room.  Beneath its cotton/linen upholstery, the maker uses latex, wool and cotton over solid maple and steel springs.  The US-made construction avoids a conventional polyurethane-foam cushion, but the finish and assembly details should not be mistaken for an entirely untreated product. Materials: solid maple · organic latex · organic wool · organic cotton inner cloth · steel springs · cotton/linen upholstery · Rubio Oil Plus 2C finish · assembly adhesives/trim not fully itemized $5,700.00 View product
Pure Upholstery Truro Tuxedo Sectional — Orcas Abalone Pure Upholstery Truro Tuxedo Sectional — Orcas Abalone ORGANIC COTTONNATURAL LATEXSOLID WOOD Why we recommend it: This sectional gives you a chaise for stretching out within a 97-inch overall footprint, with a deeper 26-inch seat than the Tom sofa.  Its US-made solid-maple structure supports latex-and-wool cushions rather than conventional polyurethane foam.  We specify Orcas Abalone's cotton/linen fabric; wood finish and small assembly components remain part of the materials picture, not an all-natural guarantee. Materials: solid maple frame · solid hardwood legs · organic latex and wool · organic cotton inner cloth · steel springs · cotton/linen upholstery · Rubio finish · assembly adhesives/trim not fully itemized $9,100.00 View product
